Traditional and Modern Kitchen Rugs

Kitchen rugs make a gorgeous addition to any kitchen. Here at Rug Traders, we supply rugs to suit both traditional and modern tastes, varying in textures, designs and colours, in extra small to extra large sizes to fit in any kitchen space!

Should You Put a Rug in the Kitchen?

There are many benefits to including kitchen rugs in your décor. Modern kitchen rugs can:

  • Dampen sounds; kitchens don’t often have many textiles and a kitchen rug can help to stop sounds bouncing around
  • Protect hardwood floors
  • Keep your feet warm in colder weather
  • Reduce the risk of falling on slippery floors
  • Add an extra touch of style!

What Type of Rug Is Best for the Kitchen?

While you can, of course, use any rug in your kitchen, there are a few factors to keep in mind. High foot traffic and the risk of spilled food or drink are key in choosing a rug, but of course you want one that’s also stylish and comfortable underfoot. Non-slip kitchen rugs offer added security to prevent the rug from moving or tripping anyone up. Most people find a durable rug that’s easy to clean is the best option for a kitchen rug. We recommend flatweave rugs and machine washable rugs which are perfect for busy homes, especially those with younger children. If you don’t go for a non-slip kitchen rug, we recommend purchasing an anti-slip mat instead to place underneath.

Where Should You Place a Kitchen Rug?

One of the most popular spots for a kitchen rug is near the sink. From doing the dishes to washing your hands and filling the kettle, we can spend a lot of time standing in front of the sink, and a kitchen rug can protect your feet from cold while adding a layer of comfort, particularly against wooden, tiled or laminate flooring.
