Commencing on a journey to Bhadohi, we heard of a tale that rug-weaving began centuries ago in this Indian city. The first loom was established when Iranian weavers stopped in one of the villages on their travels, starting what was to become a hub of spectacular and original textiles. It’s clear that the inhabitants of Bhadohi are proud of their rug-weaving history, taking pride in each rug that they passionately produce.
As we travel through the villages viewing their spectacular works of art, each rug-weaver makes the process look so easy, yet it’s also clear that immense skill is required to produce each design. It’s spectacular seeing families teaching the younger generations the tricks of the trade. It’s through this tradition that Bhadohi is able to keep up to date with ever-changing trends. Young and passionate minds inject youth into the very traditional method of rug-weaving. The timeless design of our Stripe rug has been perfected over the centuries, perfectly combining hues that complement each other and add some simple colour and pattern.
